About me and my painting

I am a Kent-based figurative artist working primarily in oils. Having taken my first tentative steps into painting over a decade ago, I have since developed a popular and recognizable style of my own, and am proud to have exhibited my artwork at the prestigious Mall Galleries in London. In 2019 I was awarded the Arthur Gibson trophy by the Guild of Aviation Artists for the best work by a Guild artist exhibiting at the Annual Exhibition for the first time.

Though specializing in aviation subjects, I am highly versatile, being equally at home in the fields of portraiture and landscape painting. I also take commissions across a wide range of genres.

Here you will find a varied selection from my original artwork collection which features subjects as diverse as steam trains, boats, buildings cars and motorcycles. Enquiries regarding commission work are welcomed; for further information please see below.

My technique

I work mainly in oil on board or canvas, in a loose and individualistic style, building up layers of different colours in a semi-impressionistic manner. I prefer to paint over a toned ground, sometimes choosing to leave some portions of the painting open, allowing the undertone to show through. This contributes to the appearance of the finished painting, by imposing an overall undertone – a distinctive feature of my work. While I do paint on location when I can, the majority of the work is done in the studio using photographic references – informed by my experience of working from life.

Commissions

I am available for commissions in any genre, working from your photos to create a unique painting. I strive to capture as much character and soul as possible, drawing on traditional methods and techniques to achieve highly realistic and lifelike results. A portrait in oil makes a unique and thoughtful gift, perfect for a special occasion or as a special surprise – to be passed down through generations to come. My pictures are treasured by many, and clients have included major companies and public figures. If you would like to know more or talk to me about it please get in touch.
